This fall, a team of rockstar Cengage engineers had the opportunity to put their tech skills to work for a great cause: student literacy. To support Readvolution, a partnership between the Carolina Hurricanes (North Carolina’s NHL Team) and Wake County Public Schools, Cengage employees based out of the Raleigh office built an easy-to-use website where elementary school students could track the number of books they read and time spent reading.
“The Readvolution website helped avoid a labor-intensive tabulating process that would place on a burden on teachers, students and parents,” said Tom Ward, Senior Vice President of Brand/Community/Partnership Development, Carolina Hurricanes Hockey Club.
Cengage came to the rescue and created an online tracking system that enabled students to log their daily reading time on their student dashboard via their Wake County student ID. The teachers also had access to monitor their students’ progress through the teacher dashboard. Problem solved thanks to Cengage!”
To celebrate and honor the students who participated in Readvolution, Rob Simora, VP of Skills Technology at Cengage, attended the “Cool Schools Field Trip” on February 21. More than 9,000 students, teachers and chaperones attended to celebrate their accomplishments.
“It was very powerful to see 9,000 ecstatic students having a wonderful time and know that our technology fueled their literacy journey. Getting kids excited about reading now will help them become confident learners and propel them towards future success, in school and beyond,” said Simora.
