Klaudia Janek is a high school librarian at the International Academy (IA) in Bloomfield Hills, MI. She is a certified school librarian. As an authorized IB (International Baccalaureate) World School, the IA offers the Middle Years Program and Diploma Program to all students in grades nine through twelve.
The IB curriculum requires that International Academy provide student resources that have a global reach so students can seek out and understand sources from outside the U.S. viewpoint. To support their students’ needs, International Academy subscribed to Global Issues in Context (GIC) shortly after it was released in 2009.
In this Success Story, you’ll learn how Global Issues in Context provides the broad, international viewpoints that the IA requires allowing students to see an issue from many different perspectives. Researching and identifying multiple resources through Global Issues in Context’s portals allows students to easily differentiate between books, newspapers, journals, and other publications. You’ll also see how students build critical thinking skills by contrasting various perspectives as they analyze a research topic.
