Forsyth County Schools (FCS) in Georgia can proudly claim the highest SAT scores among the state’s fifteen largest school districts as well as the highest graduation rate (90+ percent) among the twenty largest school districts. Given this success, it’s no surprise that FCS offers a wide variety of Advanced Placement® (AP®) options to give its students the opportunity to experience college-level academic courses while in high school. To ensure ongoing access to current, quality learning resources for its AP curriculum, the district recently turned to the MindTap® K12 platform and a cost-effective subscription plan from Cengage Learning.
As curriculum coordinator for the school district, Dr. Kelly Price knows that offering AP courses requires adhering to a strict set of standards, including meeting ongoing curricular and resource expectations. Keeping up with those expectations can carry a hefty price tag.
Cengage Learning offered Forsyth access to AP materials online through MindTap K12, plus a subscription purchasing plan that allowed the district to get a bigger bang for its buck by receiving ongoing automatic updates to the resources. They were able to update eight courses with MindTap platforms, and will be able to add another eight MindTap courses next year. For added convenience, MindTap will integrate with the district’s learning management system (LMS) in the upcoming months.
Feedback from teachers has been positive. “They tell me anecdotally that MindTap has so much more to offer than textbooks,” says Kelly. “They are actually upset when their courses don’t have it!”
Kelly notes, “I would recommend MindTap and the subscription purchasing method. It’s definitely worth a conversation. Advanced Placement classes must have current resources, and there’s no other cost-effective way to stay up to date and have ongoing access to the materials we need.”
