We had a fantastic time engaging with you at SXSWedu 2015! Now that we’re back home, we’ve had a chance to reflect on what we learned at this highly engaging and energizing event. Here’s what some of Cengage Learning’s attendees had to say about their time in Austin.
Reflections on SXSWedu 2015
Although innovative technology is one of the prominent themes at SXSWedu, it is also important to consider the transforming ecosystem of education. We need to understand how and when students learn best. Students today still experience pain points within advising culture, finding a major or even courses that are relevant to their particular interests, and existing within the confines of the 4-year baccalaureate degree.

Although SXSWedu has only been around since 2011, I’d heard so much buzz for the last couple of years, I couldn’t wait to see it for myself. I tried not to get overwhelmed by the many choices for my attention at any given time over the four days I would be in Austin. Should I go to the student rights summit or the deeper learning panel? Did I want to see Casey Green warm up the crowd for Dr. Jill Biden or learn what was happening in the European EdTech industry? In the end, I learned as much as I could on as many subjects as possible. I heard about personalized learning, digital resources, higher ed policy, and badging. This introvert even mingled at a number of the social events, heard the University of Texas’ a cappella group The Ransom Notes at the Education Expo, and caught a subtitled documentary at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema!
