Thanks to Enhanced WebAssign, Busy Student has Better Study Habits—and a Good Grade

Zak Kucera, a full-time sophomore at Northwestern University, knows what it’s like to feel frazzled. With short, intense quarters packed with classes like microeconomics, monopoly and antitrust, and geography, staying focused and on top of his studies is essential in order to not fall behind, and then find himself without the time necessary to catch up.

For his essential calculus course, the required materials included Essential Calculus from Cengage Learning, as well as Enhanced WebAssign. Zak found that he enjoyed Enhanced WebAssign right off the bat, as he usually does well with online programs. He felt that the program was not only a time saver but helped him master the concepts and retain what he was learning. At the end of the course, Zak ended up with an A-, which made him very happy.

Experience and reflection has shown me that students who are engaged in class and in the content are more likely to develop their own understanding and successfully transfer the learning to a more difficult concept, and eventually the next course. Enhanced WebAssign Allows Student to Study Around her Schedule, Save Money, and Improve Skills

With the goal of attending Texas Tech in Lubbock in her future, Victoria knows she would like to earn a degree in engineering, and feels that by selecting mechanical engineering as her specialty, more career opportunities will come her way. Currently she is taking some of her math and science prerequisites, like general chemistry and calculus, while working part time for her father, studying, and making time for exercise and fun, including kick boxing.

In her calculus course, the professor would go over notes and questions in class, but the majority of the course was online, via Enhanced WebAssign. She considers herself to be somewhat tech savvy, and she enjoys her classes. Though she was surprised at first, she ended up doing well in her class and enjoying
the use of Enhanced WebAssign due to its ease of use, flexibility and affordability.

Future Veterinarian Aces Calculus with Support from Enhanced WebAssign®

Suzanne Costner recently took Calculus at her alma mater, Cleveland Community College in North Carolina, as a pre-requisite for veterinary school at North Carolina State University. She and her fellow students meet with the course instructor every Monday to ask questions and go over the previous week’s homework problems, which students complete online, on their own time, in Enhanced WebAssign (EWA).

Suzanne enjoys being a student, studies hard, likes using computers, and, not surprisingly, has excelled in academics. She works during the week, so studies primarily on weekends and when she finds spare hours on weekdays. Accustomed to using online resources, Suzanne expected EWA to be helpful, especially in preparing for quizzes and tests. She wasn’t disappointed, noting that EWA provided more examples and more context than another company’s online math homework solution that she had used previously. Suzanne attributes her strong performance on tests to EWA.

Future Nurse Anesthetist Credits Enhanced WebAssign® for Success in Math

A’lea Hathcock is a full-time student majoring in pre-nursing at Columbus State University (CSU) in Columbus, Georgia, on her way to becoming a nurse anesthetist. Her days are filled with classes and her evenings — as well as pockets of time between classes — are often spent studying.
In a recent term, one of the positive aspects of studying was the opportunity to use Enhanced WebAssign®, which was a required homework resource in her Mathematical Modeling course. At the start of every new term, I find it helpful to reassess my philosophy and approach to helping students start off empowered and filled with insights to help them succeed in the mathematics course I am about to offer them. Students need acquainting with the road map (e.g., syllabus) and tool set (e.g., technology such as Enhanced WebAssign) that will help them succeed in their learning. Two Times the Engagement: Enhanced WebAssign and Aplia Aid in Conceptual Learning

Shahrukh Ali has his sights set on opening his own businesses. But first, the Wharton County (TX) Junior College freshman must master the basics, so he elected a full-time schedule of Biology, Calculus, Economics, Humanities and English courses. Shahrukh wants to earn his degree in MIS and Supply Chain from the University of Texas, so he knows he must keep his grades high in junior college. Aplia Convenience Suits School, Study, and Home Schedules

Going into her second year at Wharton County (TX) Junior College, Alexandra Garcia puts in a typical student course load of 12 average credit hours per semester. Her goal is to become a registered nurse, but first she must complete her associate’s degree, then her bachelor’s degree. The math-intensive curriculum includes Statistics, an online/lecture hybrid course for which Alexandra uses Aplia.

In addition to being a full-time nursing student, Alexandra has the responsibilities of a family, as well as a work-study course, which demands 12 hours a week covering three days. For her, balancing time between family, school and homework is a major challenge.

Alexandra’s Intro to Statistics instructor assigned Aplia to the class; the online solution came with the textbook (Brase and Brase’s Understanding Basic Statistics, Sixth Edition) as part of a package. She noted right away that Aplia offered a variety of ways to do the same Statistics problem, with variant wording to challenge learners. Alexandra was also impressed by Aplia’s step-by-step process and instant feedback. For her, Aplia provided an opportunity for extra practice.

By allowing Alexandra more and varied practice opportunities, Aplia helped her analyze Statistics problems with more confidence. Answering simple questions led to better results tackling the difficult ones.

Working While Attending College Requires Organization and Efficiency—and Better Study Habits Thanks to Enhanced WebAssign

While attending classes full time during his freshman year at Wharton County Junior College, Adnan Prasla also held down a job and managed to enjoy a bit of free time. Demanding classes such as microeconomics, geology and history required significant study time and a commitment to making sure things got done as efficiently as possible, in order to not fall behind.

Adnan’s Calculus professor gave students the link that allowed them to choose the Enhanced WebAssign option with Stewart’s Calculus, Seventh Edition. He found Enhanced WebAssign to be helpful, and
especially liked the program’s features that walked him step-by-step through the material. The videos were a bonus for Adnan, as they allowed him to see how to solve a problem, which led to faster and greater understanding.
