Study Shows Students Using EWA for Calculus Outperform their Peers

This peer-reviewed study examines the impact of using Enhanced WebAssign® (EWA) on student knowledge and skills in Calculus I courses.

MarketingWorks and SEG Measurement, two independent research firms, conducted a comprehensive study of EWA’s effectiveness in the spring of 2014 using an array of qualitative and quantitative methods. The primary goal of the study was to determine the extent to which EWA users improved their calculus knowledge and skills more than a control group of students who used the same textbooks and other technology supports but not EWA. Thanks to Enhanced WebAssign, Busy Student has Better Study Habits—and a Good Grade

Zak Kucera, a full-time sophomore at Northwestern University, knows what it’s like to feel frazzled. With short, intense quarters packed with classes like microeconomics, monopoly and antitrust, and geography, staying focused and on top of his studies is essential in order to not fall behind, and then find himself without the time necessary to catch up.

For his essential calculus course, the required materials included Essential Calculus from Cengage Learning, as well as Enhanced WebAssign. Zak found that he enjoyed Enhanced WebAssign right off the bat, as he usually does well with online programs. He felt that the program was not only a time saver but helped him master the concepts and retain what he was learning. At the end of the course, Zak ended up with an A-, which made him very happy.

Professors Team Up with Enhanced WebAssign® to Support Self-Paced Learning in Developmental Math

Jerome Murray and Jim Anderson are math professors at Clark State Community College in Springfield, Ohio.
