From April 4 through 6, 2016, we celebrated 21 years of the Cengage Learning Computing Conference in sunny Orlando, Florida, where we were inspired to be Change Agents of Computing. Joined by dozens of presenters and hundreds of computing instructors, we enjoyed two-and-a-half days of engaging presentations and interactive sessions of a variety of topics, including: Cyber Security, wearable technology, mobile apps, computing in the cloud, Power BI, digital literacy and more. Susumu Kasai, Professor of Computer Science and Information Systems at Salt Lake Community College (SLCC), knows both the importance and the value of collaboration. Although the institution uses the Canvas learning management system (LMS) as its primary vehicle for course design and delivery, its educators also recognize the advantages of digital solutions in teaching and learning. Until recently, however, no one at SLCC had attempted to integrate a digital product into Canvas. This interactive online learning environment helps students master Microsoft^® Office and other computer skills and concepts that are essential to academic and career success. SAM is also instrumental in helping Erin ensure that her students are ready for the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification exam. MOS certification verifies that an individual is well versed in one or more Microsoft Office applications, such as Word, Excel^®, Outlook^®, Access^®, or PowerPoint^®.

Renuka Kumar teaches Computer Science and Information Technology at the Community College of Baltimore Country in Baltimore, Maryland. She and her colleagues recently redesigned the course to bring it up to date, adding new material on collaboration, mobile devices, and emerging technologies. The course learning resource that the department was using at the time didn’t cover all the necessary new topics, so a search ensued for a better option.

In evaluating possible new solutions, department decision-makers had several criteria. First, they wanted a product that would be easy to use by students and instructors. The ability to integrate with the college’s Blackboard learning management system (LMS), something that wasn’t possible with the existing product, was also on the wish list.
