Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville (SIUE) is dedicated to making education affordable and accessible for their nearly 12,000 students. Despite having an Open Education Resource (OER) initiative in place, they found it didn’t quite meet all their course material needs.
Dr. Elza Ibroscheva, Associate Provost and Miriam Roccia, Interim Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs were key players of a cross-functional team at Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville, in charge of building a digital course materials program that would further boost student affordability and ease of access. Most importantly, their program needed to cover all disciplines while still upholding academic standards and giving faculty the flexibility they need to teach effectively.
Dr. Ibroscheva, Miriam Roccia and their team decided to combine Cengage Unlimited for Institutions (CUI) with their existing OER program ― an effective integration that is reducing student costs and increasing access to quality materials for faculty and students.
“Relying on a reputable publishing platform like Cengage that has already gone through peer validation and review is going to give us that ease of access and remove complexity from the process.” – Dr. Elza Ibroscheva, Associate Provost for Accreditation Assessment at Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville.
